But I hurt my knee and I'm trying to take it a bit easy on this old girl. I hope you are enjoying a long holiday weekend with your friends and families! Now, it's time for Chrsitmas!
Wow! I have a fun project to share with you today! I'm so excited to show you this versatile and fabulous Shadow Box Die! I made these projects for the Brenda Walton Studio, using two beautiful Brenda Walton Dies – The Shadow Box Die and the Poinsettia Swirls Die. I combined these dies with some of my favorite holiday papers and vintage embellishments to create project with an old fashioned flair. Don't you love vintage Christmas?
Let's get started! The Shadow Box die can be used in so many ways. You can create a true shadow box, a theater, an ornament, a treat box….and whatever else your imagination can dream up. I made an ornament and a candy treat box to show you two ways to use the die.
I die cut my pieces out of sturdy cardstock. For the background piece of my ornament I used silver glitter paper for a bit of whimsy and sparkle! I used the Sizzix Crease Pad to get nice deep score lines. I definitely suggest using the Crease Pad, and also using nice, thick paper. This paper I've used is 110#. If you use thinner card stock, it may not fold as nicely!
After die cutting my pieces I folded all the score lines and used a bone folder for crisp edges. This makes your projects come together perfectly! Then use some fast drying paper glue to glue the sides together.
And here I have my two finished boxes! One will be left open for the ornament shadow box. In the other one, I put a sheet of window plastic across the opening and used it as a sweet treat box. See the half circle cut out? That makes it very easy for the recipient to open the box. Genius!
For my ornament, I attached a bit of patterned paper with a pretty winter scene in the back. Then I put in some little trees…. I added glitter of course! In the form of Diamond Stickles. I cut out a pretty poinsettia using matching patterned papers, to glue on the front. I also cut strips of papers to use on all four sides of the shadow box.
I used blue snowflake paper to add a border across the top of the shadow box (this piece is part of the die set!) and then attached a pretty snowflake charm with some twine. In this photo you can see the top of the shadow box. I made some little hearts to strengthen the area where the ribbon comes through. I love these little touches you can add to make the project your own unique creation!
Here is the candy treat box version of this project! I loooooooove this and I am going to make about a million of these! They are perfect for candy, cookies or maybe a small present like some jewelry! They look so professional when they are assembled. I tied mine with some cheerful twine. This twine from Lawn Fawn is my favorite!
I gently inked the corners of my box and papers to make it look more vintage. To make the blue snowflake piece over the front, I simply cut the die again with that paper and slightly trimmed it to fit!

Oh my goodness! This is absolutely fabulous! Love what you created! So many ideas to do! I’d definitely make ornaments using my kids pics, some great boxes for my son’s classmates, the possibilities are endless!
So many ideas running through my head. I would take this in to the classroom and let students make their own ornaments as gifts for parents. I bet they would have very creative ideas.

What a cool die! I would make a shadow box that can “grow.” I would make panels of 8 boxes and personalize them for each member of my daughter’s family. I would use velcro to stick them on, so my daughter could order them how she wants. Every year, another panel of 8 boxes could be added to the original with hooks and eyes. I would include the year with each panel.
What a creative, fun die. I would make some room boxes to go along with my dollhouse miniatures putting miniature furniture in them. Love the idea of the treat box!!

These are just gorgeous! These would make great homemade treat boxes for the neighbors, mail lady, paperboy & people at work! Great for small gifts abd gift cards also.
Love the shadow box idea. I’d like to create mini memories of my daughter’s wedding that was just in November at a resort in Mexico.
You could use these for any holiday. They would be great to put cookies in for a cookie exchange.
. .. sooo cute! . . .I’d make 12 of them, decorated for the 12 days of Xmas (or filled with a different treat eachday) . . .then “package” them up in a stack, and the recipient would pull one off the stack each day . . . (if they’re not tooooo big!!) Shadow box ornaments is a GREAT idea! Like for baby’s first Xmas, first Xmas together, etc. . ahhhh . . . so many projects, so little time!! 🙂

I DO love Vintage Christmas and these are amazing. Besides the obvious (gift boxes, which are beautiful!) I would also use them in more practical ways. I don’t know what the box dimensions are but if it was high enough, I would make dividers and store my finger daubers in them for easier access so not to have them rolling around in a plastic container. You could also make a few to organize ribbons/twines for each colour family. A clear plastic top, label the end and stack. Presto! Organized!I can think of more…LOL

Aren’t they wonderful! Will they hold a business card? I used to design and print business cards for people from my Hallmark or greeting card making programs like Print Master, like my hair dresser, just for fun. And sometimes I like to gift coupons that I make up myself like, Date Night, Free Movie, Free Hugs, etc. A knitted dish rag would probably fit in there too! Thanks, Wanda! I love your creativity!
LOVE those ornaments! I would love to make ornamenets, treat boxes and beach keep sake display for their seasheels from Southeast Asia last summer for my daugthers.
These are so CUTE! So many ideas running through my mind. I think I would make the treat boxes and fill with homemade vanilla cinnamon almonds! They would be so fun to decorate.
I love this die and the projects you have created. I have a family member getting married in July. His bride to be has asked me to help her learn to make cards. Our first project was Christmas cards. She would like to make a lot of her wedding decor and has asked for my help. I would use this die to create wedding favors–filling them with a special homemade treat!

This is probably finished, but I loved all the ideas of others as well as yourself. I would make these for the kids and put their favorite candies in them. I have almost two dozen nieces and nephews so this would be a great thing for them.
These are beautiful! My first thought was to do something w/ reproductions of old family pictures! Esp if I could find some Christmas ones. Another was to make a different box for each month, and have it on a free-standing ornament hanger.
