Taylored Expressions February 2013 Studio Challenge!

It's time again for the Taylored Expressions Studio Challenge! Yeah! Here's my card for today….more details below. This was a fun one! I think you'll like this challenge we have in store for you today! Thanks for coming by.

This is our monthly opportunity for the Taylored Expressions team to share what makes our stamping studios hum. Each month we have a fun, crafty question so we can share our favorites, some tips and tricks, stamping advice and more.

The question that Jami and Taylor gave us for February is:

Recipe for success! When you sit down to create a card just for fun, for the pure joy of stamping, without any type of assignment or deadline, what steps do you usually take?Tell us how you get started and take us along on your creative journey.

My creative process is usually the same…I get inspired by something…either a stamp set, or a card on Pinterest, or some piece of paper or an embellishment. That will start the wheels turning. Then, I will scurry around my stamping studio gathering supplies I think will work or match what I'm doing. Did you ever watch Candice Olson on Divine Design? Remember how she would grab a basket and put all her design elements into it – so that everything matched? I do that sort of thing! I will go and grab some paper, and then a piece of ribbon, and then a die, and maybe some buttons, and then put it all out on my work table to play. I don't usually use every item, but I like to give myself options….

I have a bit of a crafty crush on Ms. Anna Wight (Sweet Miss Daisy)…and it's been so great having her guest design with the Baker's Dozen recently. Earlier this month, she created THIS CARD for the TE Release. Well, I was just smitten by her coloring. My card for today was inspired by her chicks!

So, my creative process started with that one little chick stamp! LOL. I grabbed some pretty papers from my stash, and then some matching solid papers. Next I grabbed that pretty Lace Border Die, oh and then the Chickenwire Impression Plate…kind of developing a shabby-chic-farm vibe.

Here's a good place to throw in a helpful tip: Always pick your patterned paper before choosing your Copic colors! It's much easier to match the paper as you're coloring than to try and match the paper later! I chose lots of yummy golden yellow shades for my chickees!

It all started with one chick….then I created a mask from a post-it note, and kept adding more! Peep peep peep!

You can see here how I have my patterned paper right next to me as I'm coloring…

Yes, I used all those shades of yellow!
