  • Happy Thanksgiving 2025!

Hi friends! What a year this has been! Truly so many things to be grateful for! My motto in life is “grace and gratitude” and that always gets me through. Remember to give grace to yourself and others, and remember that there is always something to be grateful for. Each day brings new challenges, but also new miracles. Look around you…really, what ISN’T a miracle? It’s all amazing – and it’s a matter of a perspective shift. This year has been so busy and the Thanksgiving weekend will be my first days off since I started back to work full time. I’m really looking forward to some down time with the hubs! I am wishing you and your family the most wonderful Thanksgiving. I am very grateful for everyone here who has a kind word for me and those that keep me going with their encouragement. THANK YOU! I took the photo below last week in the parking lot at work – isn’t she a beauty?

I’m grateful we get to craft and create together. Love you! XOXO

    HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

    Come, ye thankful people, come,
    raise the song of harvest home;
    all is safely gathered in,
    ere the winter storms begin.
    God our Maker doth provide
    for our wants to be supplied;
come to God’s own temple, come,
raise the song of harvest home.

  • My Blog has a new home!

Hello friends! After three weeks of complete stress, angst, anger, and work….my blog has a new home here on the WordPress platform. It’s still A Blog Called Wanda! You can still type in ablogcalledwanda.com to get to my home page! The story is very long and very upsetting but I’ll try to make it brief. Three weeks ago, my blog hosting home of 15 years (Typepad) sent me an email advising they would be going out of business as of September 30th, and if we did not do something with our content, it would all disappear forever. Well, they made it sound like ‘no big deal,’ just transfer your information somewhere else. It was, in fact, a VERY big deal. Everything I tried on my own did not work. I consider myself a fairly tech savvy person…but the only thing that would transfer over were the words…no photos! I was truly about to give up. I was so sad to think that 15 years worth (2025 blog posts) of projects, photos, and stories would be gone! Many tears were shed, and lots of anger directed at Typepad for leaving us in the lurch like that with no assistance.

I ended up hiring a software engineer off the website Fiverr. He turned out to be a super genius, and also a tenacious person. And also extremely kind and professional. He would not give up on me. We messaged each other hundreds of times over the past week, navigating a 15 hour time difference! To think that someone in Indonesia that I’ve never met decided to go the extra mile for me is amazing. The good part of the internet…  Yesterday he sent the final word – there are photos!! (Yes, more tears)…. It appears that most everything is here now. Some photos are missing here and there but overall we are live. Whew. It’s going to take me a little bit of time to get used to a new platform and editing software. But I will figure it out!!

I tried to keep it looking the same so you all would feel at home here too. My links all seem to be working on my sidebars and in my posts. Please do me a favor, and let me know if you see something strange or something is not working properly. My email is stampcatwg@aol.com.

Coming soon – I hope to post my photos from the Pretty Pink Posh new release this week! (SO CUTE) and then in a couple of weeks we will have the brand new Greetery Holiday release! (It’s on my desk and it’s stunning!)

To leave a comment, you need to click on the post title to open the post. Then a comment/reply box will appear at the bottom. We’re all going to get used to this together!

    Be well, take care! XOXO

  • Discouraging news and an update!

Hello my sweet crafty bloggy friends…. I have discouraging news today in blogland. Not sure what's going to happen, but I need to say something! Yesterday I received a notice from the company that hosts my blog that they are shutting down business in 30 days! So I have FIFTEEN years of blogging content here that will completely disappear if I don't do something immediately. But I'm not sure what to do, or if it even matters anymore…. I'm terribly sad because I have poured my heart and soul into my little space here and I would really miss it. Some of you have been with me here since the very beginning and I love my community we've built. The thought of all my hard work just being gone is too much for me to process. There have been tears. But alas I have to process it – quickly. Also, none of my links are working for The Greetery. (Update I think they are working now)… If you tried to help me by shopping via my links, thank you. That is a separate issue that we are working on…. I'm having a hard time so say a little prayer for me!

If you are a tech guru and can help me migrate my blog content to another platform I would be immensely grateful for (paid of course) assistance! Just email me at stampcatwg@aol.com, or leave a comment here for me.

Stay blessed and not stressed! (convincing myself)

  • Quick update – regarding my mailing list!

Hi crafty friends! I no longer have an email subscription service attached to my blog! This means that you will not be receiving email updates whenever I do a new blog post going forward. If you want to know when I have a new post, you can follow my page on Facebook (I always update a new post there) or follow me on Instagram! (I update new posts there too). That way you won't miss anything! Thank you so much. Have an awesome and creative day! XOXO

  • A note from my heart and some real talk today…. Grab a cuppa and spend time with me….

Hello my dear and lovely crafty friends! Hope you're doing great today, and I'm sending some good vibes your way on this lovely day. This post might be long and involved… Grab some coffee and let's chat. As I sit down to write this post, so many things are going through my head. Things I want to say, and stuff I want to tell you, things I need to say, and how do I word these things, and what will be the response?…. I'm optimistic that you all will be supportive, because you always are. Over the years, you have become my tribe, my posse, my girl gang. I have gotten to know you all, and you have gotten to know me. We have been through a lot together. Many of you have become my friends. It's been wonderful and uplifting. We have crafted a LOT of things together over the years! Can you believe that I have been blogging for fifteen years this year!!! FIFTEEN! I have been making cards for 30 years this year!!! Gosh, just writing that is weird. Like how did all those years go by? In a blink. I have learned so much and I have been blessed so much by you, and the companies I get to work with. It's been a ride for sure – a good ride! E ticket!

As I've alluded to in recent past posts, last year was really hard for my little family. Lots of things went wrong and it was a test. I was filled with so much anxiety most of last year and much of the time I felt like I was hanging on by that proverbial thread. As God always does, HE brought us through everything and we are going to be fine. We grow most when we are tested and tried. Forged. God shows up in the dark places and that's definitely what has happened to me in the past year. My faith is so strong and I am ready to take on 2024. Renewed and ready to step into my called purpose more. I have been spending a lot of time in prayer and contemplation these past few weeks of the new year. I have been planning and dreaming and deciding what this year will look like, both creatively and generally in life. I want to share some things with you and get your feedback for how A Blog Called Wanda will go forward from here on out!!

My goal on my blog has always been to produce a creative "magazine" of sorts. A web magazine. I have always loved magazines! When I was in 5th grade, my best friend and I actually 'published' a monthly magazine for our friends! My dream was to be a photo journalist when I was a kid. To this day, one of my favorite things to do is to grab a stack of pretty magazines and a coffee, and relax. That is what I try to create for you – a time to relax, a good story, a project, some encouragement, handcrafted things, beautiful photographs.  I love to share new products with you and ideas for cards and more! I want you to feel excited to try something new. I was obsessed when Martha Stewart Living Magazine came out and subscribed from day one. Crafts, and collections, and good stories and cooking and all the pretty things. So here on my blog is my magazine for you. It's mostly crafting but I would like to be able to share other topics and things with you more in this new year.

I am so passionate about my blog, and my little crafty corner of the internet. I have poured my heart and soul into every post from day one. I love sharing creativity with people and I also love the interaction and fun we have here. It means so much to me as a creative soul to have my projects out there for people to enjoy and to spark your creativity. I truly believe that making art should be part of everyone's life in some way. Doing this has enriched me beyond what I ever would have thought all those years ago!

Many of you will remember my post nine years ago when I sat down and told you that I was quitting my corporate job to become a full time creative entrepreneur. Man, that was REALLY scary!! It was the biggest leap of faith ever for this self described control freak and no-risk girl. Since then, I have been making a living through my photography, and creativity. (If you didn't know, I do the product/web/catalog photography for many of your favorite crafting companies!) I also make my living from affiliate shopping links on crafting products, Amazon and now Target. The ways that I used to make a living allowed me to be able to share my blog content with you and spend the time doing so. However, lots of those opportunities are changing or are gone altogether over the past nine years, which means that I need to adapt and pivot.

Here's where I need to get your input, advice and support going forward. I need to find out from my regular readers and subscribers if my content has enough value to you that you would be willing to be more active in making sure it happens. The best way I can put it is that I'm spending many many hours creating content here for almost zero financial payback. I have come to the conclusion that I don't think I can spend this amount of time anymore with no financial gain, so I am faced with the decision to either stop blogging full time, and go back to 'traditional' work, or to ask you for some help – and continue to create here with you the same as always.  I know what my choice is because I absolutely LOVE doing this! But, I am at peace with whatever happens going forward. I've turned it over to God completely and my answer will be made clear – I know that. My hope is that we will figure it out together and keep creating together for a long time. I don't know if it's time to slow down, or keep going full ahead. I will always be loyal to The Greetery and the other companies that I blog for regularly and keep working with them!! I hope all this makes sense.

Like many of us in my generation, I didn't grow up valuing myself and my contributions. I wasn't really taught to value my God given gifts or to ask for anything. Be seen and not heard, especially for girls! I know I'm not the only one. In my age and wisdom, I now realize that we are all so dang amazing really. And our voices, talents and contributions are also amazing. And it's okay to ask for help and it's okay to know your worth and it's okay to put yourself out there. Today I'm putting it out there to you! You know me by now, and I'm always going to keep it real. It's always a good idea to reassess and re-evaluate, and it just felt like now is the time to do that.

Here's what I would like to propose… I would like to ask you to consider helping financially to keep the lights on here at A Blog Called Wanda every month going forward. There are lots of easy ways to do this. I'll outline them at the end of this post. We all pay for many different things each month without even thinking about it. Iphone apps, news and website subscriptions, entertainment, books and magazines, coffees, tv channels…. And most of the time, those companies don't even care about your contribution. Here, though, I really care, and each time you help me, it makes a huge difference. You help me achieve my dreams. I don't think I would ever make the move to being a subscription site, and I'm not proposing anything formal like that. I wanted to reach out to you first, and see how it goes from here – If you would be interested and/or willing to contribute for my content.  Thank you for everything you already do to give me support – it is so appreciated!

Right now I am spending a lot of time hustling for more one-off, small jobs. If I don't have to do that I will have more time for making content here for you, and trying new things… With your help, I want to do more for you here! Some of my brainstorming ideas of things I want to do are:  More detailed instruction, more tips, and more step out photos. Even more projects! I could send out cards that are featured here. I can post about other lifestyle topics, and put together Prizes and giveaways! I feel like it would be a win/win! (Or other suggestions you have on what you'd like to see.) This is our space, not just mine.

Thank you for reading this far – truly – you are the best. Thank you for everything over the years here. You guys uplift me all the time with your notes, comments, emails, and the beautiful cards and letters you send me. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity – no matter what happens going forward. It's been an absolute pleasure all these years to create for you and encourage you to create too. A complete blessing. It was very hard for me to write this, but I just feel like I need to put it out there in an honest way so we can have the conversation. All this being said, I have about ten projects to share before Valentine's Day – I've been so busy crafting! I look forward to your feedback here – Thank You!

Photos are not showing up, the formatting is wonky, I can't write posts all the time, and sometimes my blog is just completely blank! Please bear with me as I try to be patient and wait for them to fix everything! I'm hoping I can still get one last Halloween post written! But it's no use if there are no pictures!!! Stay tuned. Thanks for all the support too!! XO

  • Antique Window project with Iron Orchid Designs!

Hi everyone! Happy Sunday! I have a super fun project to share today – and it's not a card! Or even paper! I took a fun workshop last weekend at a local store and made a very cool antique window covered with floral transfers! This was my first in person craft class in more than two years. It was SOOOO nice to take a class and make something with other people. It made my soul happy – see the giant smile on my face?! I signed up for this class two months ago and literally I was waiting every day for it to be time!! The other ladies in class were very fun and nice and the teacher/owner was excellent!

Have you heard of Iron Orchid Designs? It's a company run by two sisters and they make paint transfers, rub on transfers, molds and stamps – for making vintage furniture and home decor projects. The cool thing is – they are local here to us! They are very talented and their vision is amazing. I have tons of their products – and I really just need more time to make stuff! Here is the Iron Orchid Website – you are going to drool over the photos!! There is a store locator on the site also. I'm lucky that I have two retailers within about five miles of me!! (take my money….)

The project for our workshop was to use the transfers and place them onto antique windows. The owner/teacher searches out all these beautiful old windows and saves them for classes. So each person in class had a totally different window. I happened to get there first, so I got first dibs on my window. I chose this old, chippy, white, crackly window!! Some windows were brown, or more vertical, or less aged. But they were all gorgeous. Here's me – in the store – right after finishing…..

I took some more pictures once I got home, so my body isn't blocking the design. Whew, I was so glad it made it home safely. The glass is super old and fragile. Isn't this so beautiful????

    Here is my window BEFORE!

We all took our windows outside and 'washed' them with degreaser and clean water.

Then we used rubbing alcohol to make sure the class was squeaky clean and ready for the transfers.

This photo is when I was laying out my design placement. You can see the giant transfer came in four sections. I had to trim off about three inches all the way around. We got to choose what design we wanted. So it was fun to see different designs on the other windows. I was smitten with that big sunflower and that cute little birdie.

    One section down!!!

And all the sections done! It took quite a while actually – to make sure every last little detail was transferred.

Here's another photo of my window out in our front yard. See how big my hydrangeas are already?? I can't wait for them to flower!! Initially I was going to hang my window in my craft room… But once I got it home it was too big. So now I'm going to put it in our master bedroom over my makeup table. We're going to put in a shelf that I can place it on and then maybe add some candles or a vase or some knick knacks?? It's VERY heavy so we have to find just the right shelf. This project makes me ridiculously happy!!!

The Treasured Home is the name of my local store and it's so pretty! I love taking pictures of paint brushes and art supplies….

And check out this cool mobile made from paint brushes!!!

This was the store sample for the workshop. This design is so gorgeous also! It was really kinda hard to choose which design. Guess I'll have to make another one!!

Thanks for popping in today! I hope you have a peaceful and lovely Sunday! I'll be back soon with some more projects. XOXO

    Pretty Pink Posh Blog Hop

I started by creating my pretty shaker element using the new Butterfly Shaker Die in a medium aqua/teal color. I filled it with teal and yellow gems, sequins and beads. The shaker element is the star of the show here!

I stenciled the background using new stencils and pretty inks with my blender brushes. I splattered the entire panel with white ink also. I added more gems to the front of the card to tie it in to the shaker element.

For the sentiment I stacked three 'smile' die cuts in black and affixed them to the card over a vellum circle. I like a pop of rich black against all the other bright colors. Makes the sentiment stand out!

  • Pretty Felt Mittens! For Ornaments or Gift Tags!

Ho Ho Ho! It’s officially December! Yikes! Christmas is coming FAST! Better get your sleigh ready! Hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday. We are all snuggled in because it’s pouring outside! Hubs just went to get us a pizza and Lucky is fast asleep in his bed. I love this kind of day! Friday I did a little crafting and made some sweet felt mitten ornaments to share with you! (I made ornaments, but these could easily be package tie ons or gift tags or bottle tags, or a garland…whatever you want them to be!) I used beautiful felt from TE along with die cuts and embellishments. SUCH a fun project. Also an easy one to do with kids or beginning crafters!

I made two ornaments. I wanted to make a bunch more but I simply ran out of time! Yeeks. There is never enough time during this time of year, right? I just popped into the TE Store, and all of the dies I used for this project are ON SALE!! So, if you’re interested in anything – don’t wait!! Their Black Friday Sale is outstanding. SUPPLY LIST is at the bottom of this post!

Here is the first one! Pink and red together…yum. So here’s a funny story. I took these photos in the garden center at Lowe’s! LOL. I wanted to take the pictures on a real tree (ours is faux) so imagine me standing there with my camera! Ha. The things we do for a blog post…

Taylored Expressions Felt. Mitten Garland die, Felt ornaments for Christmas. Craft ideas for holidays. Wanda Guess

Here’s the second one! Yummy aqua and pale green…with a pretty bow. (That ribbon is sparkly, and it’s from Paper Source!)

Felt mitten ornaments with dies and felt from Taylored Expressions. Wanda Guess. Christmas craft ideas.

Here are my color selections of felt. I use this gorgeous wool felt from Taylored Expressions because it is SO easy to work with and comes in a million colors. And see how it cut out that intricate die above??? Yeah!!! CLICK HERE to see all the colors.

I die cut two mitten dies for each ornament and filled them with a tiny bit of stuffing. I used a sharp needle and embroidery floss to stitch around the outside edges for a homespun look. You could also glue them together. I like the bit of contrasting stitching.

I used various die cuts and embellishments to decorate the mittens. Here I used the Evergreens Dies and the Sweater Weather cover plate. I glued them onto the top of the mitten. Then I added a button from my stash.

At the top of this mitten, I used thread to attach the bow and the Tim Holtz silver token charm. Jingle! Perfect!

This next mitten is pink and red. At the top I glued on some vintage ribbon I had here in my studio and then glued on a pretty holly cluster from Prima. So sweet!!

I die cut a couple of snowflakes and layered them onto the top of the mitten and then added a silver snowflake charm – also from Tim Holtz. For this one I stitched in white thread.

  • Happy Halloween 2019! Trick or Treat!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL MY GHOULFRIENDS!

Hope you have a fun and cheerful day today and get lots of treats! This is kind of a strange thing, but I miss going to work at an office job on Halloween! I always loved driving to work on Halloween and seeing all the clowns and witches and minions driving to work… And I usually worked in an office that would decorate cubicles or have a costume contest… And candy! LOL. So Lucky and I will have a peaceful day in the studio today and then wait for trick or treaters later when hubs gets home! Happy Halloween!

I thought today would be a good day to post my second finished Cross Stitch project! YEAH! I reeeeallllly wanted to finish this one by Halloween so I worked on it all the time and carried it around with me everywhere (just ask my friends LOL). I finished it last week and framed it, and it's been displayed in our family room. I really love how it turned out! It's been a nice change creatively to try something new – I love that feeling of satisfaction at having completed it! I learned from my last post about cross stitch that a lot of you guys do stitching too. Excellent!

This pattern is called Trick or Treat and it's by The Prairie Schooler. I bought it at my local Needlework Shop, but you can get it on Etsy. I used 14 count Aida in the color Oatmeal. I used a brighter orange than the pattern called for. The frame is from Michaels and I framed it with a bit of quilt batting behind it!

Happy Halloween! See you soon! XOXO

    Happy Easter 2019

John 11:25-2625 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”

  • Aloha Party Drinks!

ALOHA! It’s almost the weekend! I’m swinging by today with some tropical party drinks to start off the beginning of the beginning of the weekend! LOL. I love these stamps and colored them a bit ago for the coloring challenge. I had fun digging out loads of bright colors of Copic Markers. Then I layered on some glitter and lots of clear glaze. Whew. I get thirsty just looking at this card! Won’t you join me? Cheers! I hope you had a great week! I had a busy week which is good – lots of work to do. I’m grateful for it!

This card started with me coloring these awesome images with Copic Markers one night…. Then I designed a card around them. The images were drawn by my friend Peggy Jo Ackley for her line of stamps from Impression Obsession. Her company is called Pink Ink and it’s great! She is a local artist and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting her a few times and having her sign my coloring book and pencil in a stamp for me! I saw these clear stamps at my LSS and had to get them!

The finished card is a white A2 card base. I used a Pineapple Embossing Folder I bought at Joann to emboss another white layer for the card. I wrapped the embossed layer with some green striped paper from Sunny Studio. This formed the layers for the card itself. I also splattered some tropical green ink over the embossing. I die cut a white stitched circle for the drinks to sit on.

This word die is called Scripty Aloha, and it’s from Lawn Fawn! It was the perfect sentiment for this card!

I stamped and die cut out the four drinks and colored them with LOTS of Copic Markers! It took me a while to color all of these. I started by making all the glasses the same color – to tie the project together. To mimic glass I always use BG10 and BG11 with some 0 mixed in. This is the closest I can come to looking like a frosty glass. After I colored them all, I added white accents with a gel pen. Then I put about 10 layers of clear glaze over some parts using a Sakura Glaze pen. Put on one layer, let it dry, add another layer, let it dry…etc. etc. This project took a lot of patience!

Here are my little tropical drinks all lined up on the bar!

The drinks were attached to the circle die using foam tape. Then I glued the aloha word on with clear glue, using my tweezers.
