  • Pretty Pink Posh August 2022 New Release – Trick or Treat Candy!

Hi sweet friends! Are you having a good week?! Are you crafting a lot this week? I've been pretty busy in the craft room this week – lots of good and fun things coming! Our weather has calmed down a bit and I can feel the light changing for fall…. I've been working on something super fun that I will be able to share next week that is alllll fall and Halloween fun too! Anyhoo! I'm here today to share my second card I made with the awesome new release from Pretty Pink Posh for August 2022!! We are celebrating with a huge Instagram Hop today – so if you have Instagram, be sure to head over there and leave a comment for a chance to win some prizes, and to see all the other card makers' inspiration!

My card today is a white A2 card base, layered with black and white and purple! I am featuring the new Candy Treats Dies, Ghost Friends Stamps, and Stars Stencil. I'm also featuring two products from last year's release – the Boo Shaker and the Trick or Treat Dies. I used TONS of bright colors on this card. I think that's one of the best things about Halloween cards – you can just use ALLLL the colors and it looks fun!

Here's a side view of all my layers and card construction…

My inspiration for this card was a old timey trick or treat bucket! Like the ones we used to get from McDonalds with that hard plastic and the swinging handle! Brings back such good memories! The other inspiration was the CANDY that went inside that bucket! Lol! The new Candy Treats dies are wonderful. I die cut out the pieces from several colors and glued them all together. I added bits and bobs of glitter…and white gel pen accents!

This card has a lot going on!! To make the background I did one of my fav techniques – distress ink blending tone on tone with colored cardstock! I used purple cardstock and then used purple distress inks to ink around the edges. Then I used super dark purple ink to ink the stars stencil over the ink blending. SO cool. I stamped and die cut out the ghosties and colored them with a few Copic Markers.

I used the same ink blending technique on the pumpkin – orange distress inks on top of orange cardstock. FUN. FUUUUUN. The pumpkin die is the perfect size for the front of a card, and I use it a lot!

I used the Glitter Duster and Rock Candy Glitter on top of some of the candies – looks pretty in person!! (Kind of hard to photo)…

I scattered candies all around my card until I got the right look. I die cut the sentiment from silver glitter cardstock. I used glue to add the sentiment onto the bottom of the card. The silver looks pretty against that dark purple.

  • I’m batty about Halloween! Fun project with Tim Holtz supplies!

Hello crafty friends! Happy Monday! Boo! Did I scare you? I'm sharing a Halloween card finally! Did you have a nice weekend? It was 85 degrees here yesterday! And, lots of my friends are posting photos on Facebook of SNOW! Sheesh. I wish it would cool down here and warm up there. October is a crazy month. I had a really nice weekend. I stamped all day on Saturday (for my post on Thursday). Then on Sunday we went for coffee and a nice drive and out to dinner. A perfect weekend. My husband is working really hard on a work project so I tried to get him out of the house for a bit and get his mind off things. This week has some fun things coming… It's the Stamp/Scrap Expo here in Sacramento and I have a friend coming from Canada and one from San Diego and some from the Bay! A full weekend of girls and crafting awaits me! But first things first…today's card!

This card was inspired by two things: I HAD to make a Halloween card and I just got this awesome new Diamond Shifter Stencil in the mail and wanted to ink it up! So I started by inking the diamond background….then I rummaged up some cool bat stamps….and it all kind of came together. I'm sure you'll recognize the supplies are all from Tim Holtz. He really knows how to do Halloween right. Vintage and cool.

Tim Holtz Halloween Card. Distress Inks. Diamond Shifter Stencil. Blueprints stamps.

The project started with stenciling the diamond background using the new Diamond Shifter Stencil. It's SO EASY to stencil this!! I used olive and gray for a kind of spooky color palette. You simply stencil the first color (for me olive) and then shift the stencil over and stencil the second color (for me the gray). Seriously so simple and such a great result! To complete the background I added some text stamps and some black and grey ink splatters. I set that aside to make everything else. The finished card is a green A2 card base.

Tim Holtz Mini Halloween Stamp Set. Diamond Stencil. Halloween Tokens.

I stamped the bats (small and large) in black ink and then cut them out by hand. I colored them with grey, black and purple Distress Inks and a paint brush with just a bit of water. Kind of let it all flow together. I think it's more spooky with the purple in there.

Tim Holtz Halloween Blueprints. Card, distress inks, stencils..

I stamped the Happy Halloween stamp onto some cardstock and then really inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Then I splattered clean water over it and let that dry. To make the words blurry I used a paint brush and clean water and gently went over the letters. I think it makes it look old or something. And that font is AWESOME. I also inked the edges of my diamond panel with the same Vintage Photo Ink. I added a jump ring and a Tim Holtz 31 Halloween Token charm. Cool.

I dyed my own crinkle ribbon using distress inks and water. I haven't done this technique in a while and I always love the results from this! Never comes out the same way twice.

When I attached the bats to the card I used a bit of foam tape just in the middle. Then I used my fingers to gently curve the wings upwards to look like they're flying right at ya!

Mr. Lucky was VERY interested in this project…until he fell asleep! LOL! He just turned seven months old the other day. Can you believe it? He is growing so fast and has been such a wonderful studio companion. He keeps me company and is the sweetest thing ever.

Okay, so I need to try to make something else for Halloween but we're running out of time! YEEKS! Are you done with Halloween cards? Have you started? LOL. I got behind this year because we were on vacation. Oh well, it was worth it! I have some fun things to share on Thursday so I hope to see you then. Have a fabulous week and thanks for stopping by today! XOXO

  • Spooky Cats! Fun with Simon Says Stamp Halloween!

Hey friends! I'm back from Iowa! (see bottom of my post for more deets) and spending some time in the craft room again! So I took yesterday off work to regroup from my trip, and I needed to get crafty! I have lots and lots of Halloween ideas in my head and I have to make some stuff! LOL. For today's project I used the uber cute Simon Says Stamp dies and stamp sets to make a pair of cute Halloween cats!

I stamped and colored my spooky kitties with my Copic Markers. At the end I added some pretty Stickles! I created a window using two nesting oval dies. I like that pop of purple on Dracula kitty's cape against the black!

I die cut the Halloween word die and then gently curved it with my fingers when gluing it down – so that it would match the curve of the oval. Then I stamped some cool black bats!

A little more about my long weekend! It's so nice to be back here sharing with you after a SUPER fun, fabulous, exciting, crafty weekend. OMG my face hurts from smiling and laughing so hard. I got back late Sunday afternoon from my whirlwind trip to Des Moines, Iowa where I taught at Memory Bound Scrapbooks and then taught and helped out with Taylored Expressions Stamp Joy! WOW! The TE Event was amazing! Taylor worked so hard to put on a good day and she did just that. I got to see the TE warehouse headquarters (and go shopping) and meet the rest of the TE crew. I am SO very lucky to be affiliated with them. I saw old friends and made lots of new friends too. I came home renewed and relaxed. Thank you for all the hugs and kindness I received while I was in Iowa. To see all my photos of the event, and behind the scenes, please 'like' my A Blog Called Wanda Facebook page (link on left sidebar).

    Here is a great photo of the group: Taylor, Jen, Me, Sankari, Stephanie, and Lori! {love}

  • 12 Tags of 2014 – October – Trick or Treat!

Wowza! First of all, let me just say a big thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post! That was certainly crazy and fun! SOOOOO many kind people came by my blog. At last count I was approaching 500 comments! Yowza! Good luck on winning the prize package!! CLICK HERE TO SEE MY POST!  There is a prize pack on each of the blogs…so generous of Simon Says Stamp dontcha think?

Today I'm sharing my Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 tag for October! Lots of cool techniques on this one…and it really got me out of my comfort zone (again). Mr. Holtz is very good at that isn't he? I used embossing paste, and glossy accents, and glitter, and inks and all kinds of good stuff to make this one. I took lots of photos too. Hope ya like it!

The Tim Holtz stencil I used is called "shatter" but I think it looks exactly like a creepy spider web! I put the stencil down and then used white embossing paste with it…. Makes a really cool texture. That was the basis for Tim's tag this month and I'm trying to use lots of his techniques. Another technique he used is to selectively use the glossy accents on your pieces…Here you can see I used the glossy accents on the bats! While they were drying I sprinkled in some black soot glitter for a little spice!

    100

Another technique Tim used on his tag was to put brads down to hold your words or, in my case, numbers. I like how this looks too! My bats were stamped in jet black archival ink and then watercolored with distress inks!

    Here is the inspiration tag!

You know how much I LOOOOOVE to color my own ribbon! The entire card is done in Marmalade, Preserves and Olive Distress Inks. This might be my favorite ribbon ever!!!!
    100

Tim used alcohol inks on his tag for the color, but I don't have any alcohol inks yet. I was trying to come up with a way to re-create the same look…so here's what I did… I took my spritzer and the three shades of markers and really spritzed good and thoroughly over the embossing paste. It still didn't look quite right, so then I mised the entire thing lightly with plain water! Voila! Now it looks nice! I love the effect of the spray – see in the corner?

I watercolored my bats with preserves and olive – totally creepy and funky!! See the tiny bits of glitter on their wings?

Close up of the ribbon! You can't really see it in the photo but I added some sprays of Heirloom Gold perfect pearls and it's so nice and shimmery! On the tag too!

I wanted my ribbon sort of color separated…does that make sense? So here's how I did it this time.

I had the most marvelous weekend this past weekend! The hubs and I celebrated our wedding anniversary (which was Friday) by spending a lovely day together driving around on Saturday, followed by a great dinner out. Thought I would share a few of my Instagram shots from the weekend!

We live not too far from Apple Hill (Placerville, CA) and we got up early to get in line for the apple donuts – still warm from the oven. YUM!
