  • Botanical Shadow Box Project! TGIF – The Greetery Inspiration Friday!

Hi there my sweet crafty friends! Happy Friday! I hope you had a great week! I am beyond excited to share this project today! I finished it a couple of weeks ago and I've been waiting for the day to come to finally show you! My project is for TGIF over on The Greetery Blog today (The Greetery Inspiration Friday!) Woot! Please grab some coffee or tea because this post is long and has tons of photos! I think this is in my top ten favorite projects I've ever made!! The idea was in my head and when I sat down to make it, it came out exactly like I imagined! It was a joy and pleasure to make this! All the stamps and dies are from The Greetery and everything all worked together like a dream!

I made this project as a present for Betsy, actually! I really wanted to make her something special to show my gratitude and love for her as a friend and mentor. It has safely been received at The Greetery HQ so now it's time to share! I hope I inspire you to make different projects besides cards with your beautiful Greetery stamps and dies! The sky's the limit!

Today's make is a botanical/entomological shadow box frame, filled with bugs and plants and wonderful things from nature…. Only it's all paper! The shadow box frame is 9"x9" and I bought it at Michaels. I used dark kraft tags as the basis for the project scale, and amount of things to put into the box. It worked out perfectly to make eight different tags. I used loads of dies from The Greetery curio collection, and pretty stamps and labels. I used the new Honey Bees and Honeycomb Corners Dies for one of the tags….and the postage stamps….and two of my other favorites – the Toadstools and the Mighty Oak!! Basically, I dumped out all my Greetery Dies and picked out all these fun things! Here is my finished box….

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

Here's a side view of the finished box under the glass. I reeeeeeeeeeallly love how it came out!!! Each tag is like it's own little art piece in the frame.

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

To start this project, I die cut everything out of watercolor paper first. I really wanted an illustration type of feeling. And watercolor paper always looks so rich. I laid out all the plain pieces on the tags to decide which items to use. Once I had my layout set, I used my favorite watercolor paints to color all the elements. It was really fun to paint all the die cuts, and bring them to life! Every tag has a bit of green on it to tie everything together.

Here are some of the tags before I placed them in the frame. I got the dark kraft tags at Michaels also. (All my supplies are listed at the bottom of my post)…

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

How adorable is that tiny snail?? I used the Plucked Dies for the greenery on some of the tags. I think it made it look nice to start with all white watercolor paper + watercolors instead of die cutting the pieces from colored cardstocks.

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

I set the all painted elements aside to dry and went to work on the tags themselves. I splattered on some black and white paints. I used Pretty Postmarks, Destination and Curio Labels stamp sets to stamp on the tags and also stamp the small banners. I let everything sit overnight to dry, and finished the project the next morning. In this photo you can see all my tags lined up on the frame backing – so I could make sure to get them all lined up correctly. I used a clear sewing ruler to lay them out as pictured.

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

I can't decide which tag is my favorite one….but it might be this bee one! I am literally obsessed with these Honey Bees Dies!! And I love those golden yellow watercolor tones. It just makes me happy!!

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

And what about these Toadstools??!!! OH MY. Betsy gives us such amazing things to play with, doesn't she?? For this one I used lots of vivid red paint!

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

This tag has bits and bobs of stamping, and a tiny word banner….

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

    And that sweet bird's nest…

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

Here is the finished frame standing up straight. It would look so nice on a bookshelf or hanging on the wall. Maybe I'll end up making another one for my studio?  I used foam tape to attach the bugs and plants and other pretties to the tags. I also used foam tape to attach the tags to the shadow box backing piece. I added a few clear drop embellishments onto some of the tags and also a few bits of twine.

The greetery, the greetery stamps and dies, the greetery curio stamps and dies, the greetery botanical, flowers, dies, watercolor, shadow box, botanical shadow box, entomological shadow box, the greetery watercoloring, the greetery jumbo moth, the greetery toadstools, the greetery hone bees, the greetery mighty oak, the greetery pretty postmarks, art tags, artist trading cards, watercolor mijello mission gold, handmade, card ideas, the greetery ideas, wanda guess

These Mighty Oak Dies get used a lot around here. I always use olive green tones for these dies, to mimic our mighty California Oaks in my neighborhood. Heck, my town is called Fair Oaks! The oak trees have a special place in my heart.

That, folks, is my project! I hope you liked learning about how I made it! And I hope I've inspired you to get out those watercolors and play! So… I'm totally laughing because I want to say "think outside the box" but I literally made A BOX! Ha. If you don't want to make a shadow box, you could definitely make some of these watercolor tags and put a few on a card front, or into a scrapbook, or tie onto a gift!! No limits on art!

Thanks for spending part of your day with me! Have a wonderful weekend, and happy crafting. From my studio to yours! See you soon! XOXO

  • The Greetery – TGIF – A Vintage Note!

Hey friends! Happy Friday! I'm featuring a card over on The Greetery blog for TGIF (The Greetery Inspiration Friday!) I'm sharing a vintage inspired card for this Summer Friday! I like a good vintage project, and getting my hands inky! One of the many things I love about The Greetery stamps and dies is that they can be adapted to any crafting, card-making style. Everything is so creative and flexible to make your style shine. The stamps I used for this project could be used just as easily is bright bold tones, or soft pastels, or warmer hues…

Today I'm using one of my favorite products from the last Greetery release: The Pinwheel Party Dies and Stencils. I wanted to use them again with a retro look… I combined them with lots of previously released goodies and Distress Inks.

My finished card is an A2 sized card base in dark brown paper. I started by creating a cool, old paper looking background. I used watercolor paper, a water brush, and brown and blue Distress Inks. I kept layering the inks until I got a nice, worn paper look. Then I used stamps from the Pretty Postmarks Stamp set (the beautiful text and the circular postmark) and stamped them over the background. I sprayed the stamping with water to make it soften. I love text stamps! The overall feeling of this card is vintagey goodness!!

Lots of different elements on this card. I love the bright pop of pink mixed in with all the brown tones.

For the tag, I used the Speed Tagging Die Set and die cut the scalloped tag from watercolor paper. I used Distress Inks and the Oopsie Daisy stamp set to stamp the two daisy flowers onto the tag. I used a water brush to soften the edges of the stamping to mimic water coloring. I splattered inks over the flowers and also added a bit more of the text…. LOTS of splatters!!

I die cut pinwheels using the Pinwheel Party Dies – some from watercolor paper, and some from text paper. I used the matching Pinwheel Party Stencils to add blue and brown stripes. Then the pinwheels were inked around the edges with a sponge dauber…

I stamped and die cut a pretty postage stamp to add to my collage. The sentiment was die cut from the awesome Sentiment Starters word dies set. My finishing touches are a bit of twine and a few gold enamel dots. The main elements were attached to the card using foam tape.

I hope I've inspired you today to look at your stamps a new way!! If you usually do bright and bold, try vintage. If you always use one certain color palette – try something new. All of these stamps and dies are meant to spark your own style! I love that.

  • The Greetery – Love Letters Collection!

Good morning everyone! Today is going to be a great day at A Blog Called Wanda! I have TWO blog posts today! So super excited to share everything that I've been making. We are definitely turning the corner towards Spring and Valentine crafting and I'm loving it! This post is for The Greetery! Yeah! Welcome to day one of the project sharing for The Greetery's new January Release! The release is called Love Letters, and it's truly so gorgeous. Betsy has outdone herself yet again. Beautiful florals, hearts, letters, postage stamps…everything you can imagine when you think of love letters. I had so much creative fun making the cards I'm sharing today!! Full list of our wonderful team members' blogs is at the bottom of this post.

Products go live in The Greetery shop on Friday, January 17 at 10 am EST! Mark your calendars! I'm predicting you're going to want it allllll!

The products the team is featuring today are: Signed & Sealed stamps + dies, Signed & Sealed With a Kiss stamps + dies, Pretty Postmarks stamps + dies, Windowpane Plaid Background, and Postal Frames die. I tried to use everything because I couldn't stop myself. I made a mixed media collage type card and then a more simple Valentine. I combined textures and mediums…. Let's look!

My first card is pure vintage Valentine! The finished card is an A2 cream cardstock base. I used cream, kraft, black and red as my palette, with that pop of cupid pink on the bow. The music sheet is from a vintage music book I bought at my friends Antique Store.

Here's a close up of the beautiful new stamps and dies. OH LA LA!! I stamped the floral sprig from Signed and Sealed With A Kiss and die cut it with the matching die. I tried something different and stamped it in black on cream – with no color. I kinda like it. I splattered my favorite gold watercolor paint on top, then I really liked it! The tag was cut from the Speed Tagging Die… I used the Postage Stamps dies in kraft cardstock as another layer. Pops of metal and red felt….

This beautiful bow is from a previous release…and I die cut it from pink patterned paper. The music sheet is at the bottom of the whole stack of elements.

One of my favorite tips for cardmakers: combine textures!! Here you see metal, and pearls and felt and paper…all together. It's visually interesting and lets the eye travel and explore. You'll notice that almost all of my cards have a 'hard' element like enamel dots or sequins, metal or rhinestones. I add those things last usually and in my head I think…It's like putting on your earrings before you leave the house!

I used a scrap of pretty gold paper for this little sprig! (All the supplies are listed at the bottom of this post)! The new release is available on Friday, but some of the other things I used are already in the shop!

A bit ago I posted how I made THIS VINTAGE MINI CLIPBOARD… These Valentine cards are what inspired that project!

This next Valentine is a bit more clean and classic. I used the same supplies and created a pretty greeting complete with a love letter. I used cream cardstock instead of bright white. The front of the card is the largest size of the new Postage Stamp Dies. I cut a card slightly smaller and mounted it to the card. It's slightly smaller than A2 size.

Handmade valentine card ideas. Envelopes. Mixed media. The Greetery

The envelope is from the Signed and Sealed stamp + die set. It's the PERFECT sized envelope and has greetings and an envelope liner! It's creative and innovative. I don't have anything like this in my stash and I know I'll use it a lot!! I stamped and die cut the envelope. Then I used Antique Linen Distress Ink mixed with some water to slightly color the envelope. I splattered some black paint onto the background.

I stamped the letter in red and black and die cut it out. I also put the stamp cancel lines onto it with the Antique Linen Ink. A little sparrow from my stash looks so cute with the letter!!
