  • Watercolor Sketch Book Card!

Hi creative and crafty pals! It's time to post another card… How are you holding up? I hope you're doing okay and staying healthy and happy. I'm starting to fade and burn out, if I'm keeping it real. My positive attitude is now not quite so steady. I'm worn out and weary – tired of the anxiety and the unknown. It's truly been a test. I can feel the weight of knowing that we will all be so different once this is over. I'm sending each one of you a virtual air hug right now. No matter how you're doing, it's totally okay. Grace.

Crafting remains my one respite from the stress and overthinking. I can get my mind off things by coloring and painting and stitching. So that means I've had lots of projects to share. Today's card was made with water color paints and some cute Waffle Flower stamp sets. The finished card is an A2 horizontal card base. I layered a stenciled panel over the card base, one other layer and then my colored images. It's going to be perfect for one of my crafty friends.

I stamped all the images with my MISTI onto water color paper. The MISTI is best for wc paper because sometimes you have to stamp a couple of times to get a crisp dark image. I used my Mijello Mission Gold 36 watercolor palette. It's my favorite true watercolor paint palette! I used warm earthy tones of greens and browns and then popped in a little pink and blue.

After I watercolored everything, I die cut out all the pieces using the matching dies. I set everything aside to work on the stenciled background.

I used a cream cardstock panel and die cut it with a Stitched Rectangle Die. I used Distress Inks and daubers to color in that pretty leaf stencil from Pretty Pink Posh. I edged it in brown and green and also did some water splatters onto it. I wanted my card to conjure up the image of being outside painting in the woods!

I heat embossed the sentiment in white embossing powder onto black cardstock and then die cut it out with a stitched banner die. I used a few enamel dots to pop a bit more of the aqua blue color onto the card.

  • Introducing The Greetery – Fresh Air Collection – March 2020!

Welcome to day one of the project sharing for The Greetery's March Release! YEAH! We could all use some fun crafty things right now to cheer us up!  The new release is called the Fresh Air Collection. And, boy, is it a breath of fresh air indeed! Pretty florals, new clouds dies, stripes, and a sweet little convertible car! I had so much creative fun making the cards I'm sharing today!! Full list of our wonderful team members' blogs is at the bottom of this post.

The new products go live in The Greetery Shop on Friday, March 27th at 10am EST! Mark your calendars! Quick note from Betsy – a few of the dies have been delayed in production because the factory had to shut down due to the corona virus situation… She predicts the dies will be available in early April – so two weeks' delay. We are all adjusting on the fly these days, right?

The products being introduced today are: Top Down Day stamps + dies, Silver Lining Dies, and the Painterly Stripes background stamp (which is red rubber!) I used all three products and it was a joy to work with them!! I'm sharing two cards today with that cute convertible! Please pop over to The Greetery Blog to see the cards and information from Betsy!

My first card showcases the Painterly Stripes background and the Top Down Day stamps and dies. I used my favorite watercolor paints to color the images! The finished card is an A2 red cardstock card base. I layered the stripes and then one more layer with the cute car. This stamp set lends itself to a clean and graphic style of cards I think!

I stamped and die cut the car, the balloons and the girl using watercolor cardstock. Then I painted them all using Mijello watercolor paints. I kept the color palette fresh and bright with rainbow colors! My first car I ever bought brand new was a convertible!! Oh, man, how I loved that car!!! (A Volkswagen Cabriolet!)

Here's a close up of the stripes background stamp… I stamped it in Candied Apple Distress Ink and used a damp paint brush to soften the edges of the stripes. I stamped the sentiment directly onto the top layer.

Everything was attached to the card using foam squares to pop off the page!

Doesn't this just make you want to go for a drive??!! YES!

Next up is another graphic and clean card. It's a finished A2 card base made from white cardstock – that was covered with gingham patterned paper. The top layer has the convertible stamped directly onto it…. Then I layered those yummy new clouds dies!!

I used the happy word die in rich black paper and then stamped the sentiment Summer onto the top cloud. I thought the fonts worked nicely together! See how gorgeous those clouds are?? Just a bit of detail with the pierced dots. I edged the clouds with Distress Ink and then went over them with a bit of Wink Of Stella pen.

  • Penny Black Watercolor Butterflies!

Greetings Special Friends! How are you? Are you crafting anything fun this week? I hope you get in some creative time – I feel like that's so important. Even if I don't create, I make sure to come in my studio every single day. Sometimes I just organize or look through things, sometimes I don't think I'm going to create, but the mood strikes me once I'm in here! I've thoroughly enjoyed doing the Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge this time around. I didn't make something every single day, but I tried!! It's coming to a close in a few days… I'm getting around to posting the cards I made with all the elements I colored along the way. Today's card is just that! I colored these gorgeous butterfly stamps a while back…happy to share the card with you today!

The stamps I used today are Butterfly Garden and Special Friends from Penny Black. I heat embossed everything with gorgeous gold and then watercolored with my fav water color set. I used to do gold embossing all the time, but it's been a while. I'm so happy with how this turned out. The finished card is an A2 white card base.

Penny Black Butterfly Garden. Mijello watercolors and gold embossing. Butterfly card. Wanda Guess

I started by stamping/embossing the butterflies and the banner. It was all stamped onto watercolor paper. I die cut them out with the matching dies. I die cut a stitched rectangle, also from watercolor paper. I stamped the pretty leaves directly onto this panel.

Next, I watercolored all the elements! I chose pretty, bright shades! I let everything dry, and then added some splatters.

  • Pretty Pastel Easter Eggs!

Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Happy GOOD Friday! Rejoice! I’m so happy that Easter weekend has arrived and I’m looking forward to activities at church and rejoicing in the resurrection of our Savior and King. Such a very special time of year. I love everything about it and it’s been a nice few weeks of reflection and prayer. I hope you and your family enjoy a beautiful holiday with those you cherish. It’s going to be a gorgeous sunny weekend here. We can all wear our Sunday finest to church. All is good.

I have one last Easter crafting project to share today, before I put everything away. This idea came to me late the other night as I was sitting at my craft desk reading my favorite magazine (Country Living UK Edition)…. I saw this gorgeous photograph with a beautiful Easter table. And the table cloth fabric was pastel, speckled eggs! Well, my mind went “ding” and I remembered the perfectly sized Egg Die from the most recent Pretty Pink Posh collection. So, one thing led to another, the magazine was put aside, and I started water coloring eggs! LOL. Can you picture me? And Lucky yawning in his bed?

Pastel water color eggs. Pretty Pink Posh Easter Eggs die cut. Easter cards and treats. Handmade for Easter.

At first I just watercolored a bunch of eggs… Then the next day I turned them into two cards and a pillow box treat! It took me a long time to come up with a card design. You have no idea how many things I tried! I ended up with a simple wreath and a pretty Easter word die cut. I kept it clean and simple.

The pillow box was made with kraft cardstock and the We R Memory Keepers Pillow Box Punch Board. I splattered white paint onto it after it was assembled. I added a doily and some pretty natural cord then affixed the eggs to the front with foam tape.

It’s hard for me to pick a favorite color!!! On all of the eggs I watercolored them with wet on wet technique and then let them dry. Then I splattered the same color paint and brown paint and then finally white ink! (That’s a lotta splatters!)

  • Happy September! Celebrating Autumn with Watercolor Apples!

Hi friends! This past week went by in like five minutes! Wow! But, I'm so happy, because here we are at September! And I'm officially calling it Fall here on my blog! I LOVE FALL and live for it all year long! I am so happy to celebrate the next few months with pumpkins, coffee, apples, football, leaves….All that good stuff. Yeah! College football starts today too. And the weather has been perfect – cool nights and dark mornings…. Okay, yeah I'm excited! I've been Fall crafting for a couple of weeks already and that's going to continue. I hope everything is going great in your neck of the woods! Sending you some good wishes today.

I went back and pulled out some of my favorite dies from Taylored Expressions to create my apple cards to share today. These apple dies are PERFECT for Autumn cards and I chose to watercolor them with my favorite watercolor paints. This project started out with some water color playing… I just die cut some apples and enjoyed painting. Then later I turned them into two cards. Sometimes I begin with a card design already formed in my head, and sometimes I just color pieces and see what happens later. So, let's take a look at the cards! How do you like these apples??!! LOL.

Taylored Expressions apple stacklets dies. Watercolor die cuts apples for autumn

No stamping on either of these cards today. Only die cuts and watercolors! I used a wet on wet watercolor technique to color the apples. Some red and one green one. I added in some deep golden yellow accents to the painting. The leaves were painted with three or four shades of greens. Apple leaves have that gorgeous deep green color. I colored the stems brown and then generously splattered gold paint over all of them.

This first card started with a white A2 card base. Then I chose some woodgrain paper from my stash and splattered it with gold Finetec paint. I LOOOOVE GOLD SPLATTERS! Lol. Can you tell? I die cut out the AUTUMN letters from a Taylored Expressions alphabet set. I painted those deep golden yellow. The rest of the card came together fast. I used foam tape to attach the apples to the card and clear glue to attach the letters. A piece of pretty twine at the top finished it off. Oh, and a few gold Doodlebug Sprinkles too! Simple and pretty.

I staggered the letters this way because they wouldn't fit across the card. It's kind of playful and fun this way though! Happy accident!

Next up is another clean and simple design I made with the last apple die cut. I just bought the brand new Lawn Fawn Reverse Scalloped Circle Dies and wanted to use those! This is an A2 white card base layered with gingham from my stash. Then a pretty deep red layer die cut with the circle die. It creates the perfect frame for the apple! The 'hello' die cut is from Simon Says Stamp and I die cut it from watercolor paper (The same paper I used for the apples).

The red paper layer was attached to the card with foam tape – and the apple was also. I added some glitter sprinkles in red and gold. Because I like sparkly things!!

Near where I live we have an apple growing region called Apple Hill. It's only about 25 miles from our house and in the Fall it's so fun to go up and see the orchards, get apple donuts, see the arts and crafts and generally hang out in the fresh air. CLICK HERE to read about Apple Hill! The weather was sooooo fresh and nice when I woke up yesterday I got the idea to drive up to Apple Hill for a photo shoot and some donuts! This is the last few days before the crowds and craziness starts. I went up super early and guess what? I was the ONLY person there! Gosh, it was magic! I got the first batch of hot donuts (am I mentioning the donuts a lot?? LOL) and I had the whole place to myself. Up amongst the pine trees and the orchards. Here are some of the photos I took! Hope you enjoy them!

When you take pictures of things like fruit and flowers you really notice how many individual colors there are in them. I like to save this type of photo for reference when I'm using my Copic Markers or my watercolors. God is the master artist and no one paints like Him! I can try though! These apples were so pretty and you can actually smell them on the trees in the cool air. MMMM.

As a photographer, I am a life long student of light. Photographs are all about light… Not your camera or your photo editing software. LIGHT. Pure and simple, taking a picture is using the light to create something beautiful. The light changes with the seasons. Summer and Winter light is very strong and harsh and bright – with hard shadows. As we turn into Autumn, the light becomes warmer and a bit softer. I felt that yesterday – the coming of the light of Fall. AND I LOVE IT!

That's it for today! Have a super wonderful weekend! Labor Day Weekend! YAHOO! Are you doing something fun this weekend?? Tell me about it! I will be back on Wednesday as part of a fun celebratory blog hop! See you then! XOXO
