  • World Card Making Day 2017!

Greetings crafty friends! Happy Saturday! Happy World Card Making Day 2017! Are you doing something fun today to celebrate WCMD? Are you stamping with friends or taking part in an online contest or hop? I hope you are able to fit in some creative time today. How cool is it that there is an entire day just for Card Making?? It's a beautiful Autumn weekend here in Sacramento. I'll be in my studio all day today and then on Sunday I am taking another crochet class! I am finding that in order to keep up with the crocheting I need to be in class. I'm going to be doing it with a favorite friend, too, which makes it even better! Mark and I celebrated our wedding anniversary this week with a nice road trip. I posted some pictures at the bottom of my post from our trip! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I posted on Monday to kick off WCMD and that post has a prize giveaway on it! If you haven't already entered, CLICK HERE to head to that post and leave a comment. I'm giving away three $25.00 gift certificates to Scrapbook.com to three lucky winners! There is also a GIANT SALE this weekend at Scrapbook.com! Something for everyone. I stocked up on the new Waffle Flower Release, and new Tim Holtz Christmas stamps.

Today's card I'm sharing shows how I feel about my card making community….and the sentiment is 'sending love' because I'm sending you lots of love today! I used adorable brand new stamps from Honey Bee Stamps and my watercolor pencils to create a clean and simple card perfect for friend! I haven't busted out the watercolor pencils in a long time and it was fun to re-visit this technique.

    Honey Bee Forest Friends

I started with an A2 card base from cream cardstock. I completely covered the front of the card with Lawn Fawn Plaid Paper in this soft teal/blue color. I really like this technique of covering the entire card front with patterned paper! Gives a whole different look. I stamped the image of the animals in Archival Black Ink so it would not smear with the water. I used watercolor pencils and a water brush to color in the sweet critters!

    Watercolor pencils coloring

I used some Lawn Fawn woodgrain paper in soft brown for my sentiment. The sentiment is from the Honey Bee Stamps set called Seasonal Sweeties and I stamped it in brown ink. I pretty twine bow finishes off the card.

Handmade card - Honey Bee Stamps

I used Antique Linen Distress Ink and a sponge to ink around the edges of my panel. This just gives a really soft and vintage look to the card. I thought it went well with the coloring I chose. The stamp set with these cuties is called Forest Friends. LOVE. I also added a few sequins!

WORLD CARD MAKING DAY 2017 SALE

For our anniversary – which was on Tuesday – we kept it really low key and fun. Mark and I are not super fancy people in general. We really would rather just have a pizza and hang out than go to a super fancy restaurant or spend a ton of money on presents. I think that happens after 24 years together!! We went for a long road trip around the Sierra mountains looking for Fall color. Here where we live in Sacramento the leaves don't turn until almost November. But up in the mountains, the Aspens are already turning yellow. You know how much I love Fall! LOL. We drove around Highway 88 through to Lake Tahoe and ended up having dinner there, then came home. It was a lovely lovely day! And, as a bonus, it was like 40 degrees up there! I almost forgot what it felt like to be cold, after the HOT summer we had here. Here are a few photos from our day out! XOXO

  • You’re the pumpkin spice in my latte!

Hi creative friends! I'm back today with a fun post of a seriously cute card perfect for the season! Yes, I am totally one of those annoying FALL people! I've already been to Target to stock up on pumpkin spice everything! And I've already had my first PSL of the season! Heck, I saw some leaves falling on my street, so to me it's game time! Bring it on, all of it! I'm ready for sweaters, scarves, football, boots, denim jackets, leaves, cool nights, and pumpkins! LOL! Do you love it too? My friends make fun of me, but I don't care one bit! Fall makes me happppyyyyy. I used to love to go back to school every year with my new binders and a fresh start. For me, Fall is like New Years… I get renewed and I get more active and focused too. Summer makes me crabby and hot. All that sun and everything. HAHA. Some of you might remember that our honeymoon was actually two weeks spent in New England in October! Okay, I'll stop now! You get my point. I hope you're having a great week! Be sure to leave a comment on my last post (Hero Arts Kit) to have a chance at winning a prize. Thanks for stopping by today!

When Lawn Fawn came out with their new release this season, what do you think was my favorite thing? Yes, the cutie patootie Pumpkin Spice stamp set! I used it today to make a happy card for one of my girlfriends. I used colored pencils and a brand new paper collection from Echo Park….

Lawn Fawn Pumpkin Spice. Coffee card by Wanda Guess

I started with an A2 Kraft card base and layered all kinds of pretty patterned papers (more about that later in the post). I stamped the little coffee guy and colored him in with matching colors to the patterned papers. I die cut two flags for the sentiments and broke them up, one above, and one below my main image. This is a good general purpose card layout for when you have one focal image and a sentiment. Easy to dress up with a few embellishments and things you have on hand already.

Lawn Fawn Pumpkin Spice. Coffee card by Wanda Guess

I used a button and some twine to add a bit of interest at the top of the card. It's glued on with Tacky Glue.

Just a few bits of Star Dust Stickles on the foam and the stars….

Here's a close up of the paper layers. It can sometimes be confusing trying to mix and match a bunch of papers…. This is something I love to do. The best tip I can give you is to let the paper pad work for you. All of these papers are from the same pad. So we know the colors match perfectly. Then it's a matter of choosing a small scale, a medium scale (think stripes or polka dots) and a pattern (think flowers or leaves). Play around with it and try using a patterned paper instead of plain cardstock too!

Last Friday my friend Cara and I took a trip up to Apple Hill (Camino, CA) for apple donuts and PSL coffeeeee! It was pretty funny, because it was super hot that day! But we had a lovely Fall picnic under the trees. Can't wait to go back up the hill for some Cider when it's cooler! Here's a photo I took at our picnic.

Buddy reminded me that it's been a while since I posted a photo of him! So here he is over the weekend looking out the window in our family room. He's so handsome!!! He was probably squirrel watching. They are out in full force right now in our neighborhood!

So that's it for today! Cheers to Fall and pumpkin spice lattes! I hope you have a great weekend. I'll see you soon… XOXO

  • STAMPtember Collaboration with Lawn Fawn!

    Lawn fawn stamptember graphic

Hey everyone! I'm back already with another STAMPtember blog post! How are you loving all the new products and ideas so far? Did you enter the amazing contest yet? Stamptember is just getting started my friends! Today I'm sharing the first of the Simon Says Stamp collaborations! It's an adorable new stamp set with matching dies from Lawn Fawn! This is a limited edition set only available at SSS. I love it! The images are perfectly Lawn Fawn, which means CUTE! I had fun making this festive Christmas card to share with you. Happy Howlidays! One note of caution… If you want this set – buy it right away! Last year the Lawn Fawn set sold out super fast! CLICK HERE to go to straight to the product page.

My second project for today is another felt project! I figured since today's post had a Christmas theme already, why not? I made a sweet reindeer with another one of the new exclusive Simon Says Stamp felt plush dies. I gave him a red nose so he looks like Rudolph! Let's get started!

I created a little scene using the new stamp set along with an old favorite Lawn Fawn set called Joy to the Woods. I also used the awesome Lawn Fawn plaid paper and star paper for my accent colors.

Limited Edition Simon Says Stamp and Lawn Fawn collaboration stamp set for 2016. Project by Wanda Guess. Stamptember!

I started by stamping and die cutting all my images so I could lay them out and see what format looked good. Then I colored everything with my Copic Markers and added sparkly Stickles to make everything glisten.

Next up is my little felt Christmas reindeer! You know by now how much I love to make felt projects!! (I have one more to come tomorrow in the blog hop!) This little guy came together perfectly using shades of tan, brown and cream felt. I used the carrot top from one of the Easter Bunny plush dies to make some greenery for his collar! I thought he needed just a bit more color. To make his cheeks pink I used a Q-tip dipped in some pink stamping ink.

  • It’s my birthday! And I’m so thankful!

Wooooot wooooooot! It's my birthday today! Gonna party, like it's my birthday…. Yep, I'm a November baby! (A Scorpio! EEK!) It's my favorite month of the year! What is better than November? Um, nothing! There is my birthday (of course), and Football, and Leaves, and Thanksgiving, and sweaters, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes! It's all wonderful! It is the month when we try the most to be thankful and grateful and that is foremost in my mind as we start this new month. How sweet Autumn truly is. I'm so blessed…and so thankful for everything that has happened this year so far. Right now the hubs and I are on a mini getaway to the ocean – my favorite place. I've been looking forward to it for months. It's such a great time of year to travel – hotels are empty and inexpensive and it's more quiet everywhere. As you read this, I hope there is fog in my hair and that I'm wearing a big ole sweater at the beach! I'll be back soon!

In honor of the start of November, I made a card using some of my very favorite leaf dies – from Lawn Fawn. Now there are two sizes, regular stitched leaves and mini stitched leaves. Yay! They are the perfect sizes for cards. (Supply links below). I used a pretty sentiment stamp and let the leaves be the star of the card….

Autumn Card using Lawn Fawn Stitched Leaves and Distress Inks. Card by Wanda Guess

I die cut the leaves out of Papertrey Ink Confetti White cardstock. Then I inked them up with many shades of Mini Distress Inks using a sponge dauber. Here you can see that I ended up edging all of the leaves with Barn Door ink. That was a mistake! I meant to grab the Corduroy ink! But, you know what? I reallllly like it with the red! A happy accident!

    1

I tacked my sentiment strip down with glue on either end and left the center open to tuck my leaves in. The background paper is from Stampin' Up from a few years ago. Presently hoarding a roll of that stuff. Delicious! The pretty twine is from Lawn Fawn. The sentiment is from Impression Obsession.

Now, you did not think I was going to make a card without any enamel dots did you???!!! The leaves are all mounted onto the card using foam squares for a bit of dimension.

  • Halloween Ghosties! Sure to make you smile! — Lawnscaping Challenge

Hi peeps! Happy Monday! Today when I woke up it was cold in our house! YAY! That makes me so incredibly happy! The weather has turned….I hope! I always sleep so much better when it's cold outside. I had a very nice and busy weekend…and hope you had a great one too. Friday I got to see Rob and Judi from Judikins who were here in town, and I had date night with my friend Stephanie at our favorite restaurant. Saturday night I had dinner with the very lovely Cindy Lawrence who was here all the way from the East Coast! She was in Sacramento, teaching Copic classes. We had a great visit and a tasty dinner. I got in some stamping time, and also a visit to the Scrapbook Expo. Wow – so much going on!

I started a Lawn Fawn Halloween card Saturday but didn't get it quite finished…. Well, when I woke up this morning I saw that the Lawnscaping Challenge this week is "Too Cute to Spook!" That was the incentive I needed to get my card finished and posted today. I adore this stamp set – it's been sitting on my desk for weeks! Talk about fun! Here is my card….

Lawnscaping Challenge! Halloween card using Lawn Fawn stamps - by Wanda Guess. Booyah stamp set

Seriously! How cute are these ghosties!!!??? I'm dying! This stamp set is so fun. See the tiny stitches on Franken-ghost? Yes, that is a teeny tiny stamp!! Who does that? I love the sense of humor of this. Dracula-ghost has a red bow tie, and witchy-ghost has a teensy broom! OMG. LOVE. For my background I made some light grey clouds using this technique. I stamped some stars too. Every stamp for the ghosts has a matching die.

    1

All the images were colored with Copic Markers. I popped the ghosts with foam tape when I put them on the card. (of course I added Glitter Sprinkles enamel dots)

  • Pretty Pink Posh New Release Blog Hop!

    AugustRelease

Hi friends! I'm happy and excited to be sharing in the fun as the lovely Paulina hosts us on a blog hop featuring her newest dies and sequins! Yep, Pretty Pink Posh has three new die sets and loads of new sequins in the shop! Woot woot!

I'm sharing two cards today featuring all three of the new dies. I used fun and fab stamp sets from Lawn Fawn on both cards. This is really a cheery post – hope you enjoy it. And, I hope you will complete the entire hop (list below). There are prizes!  Paulina is giving away (2) $25 gift certificates!! The winners will be picked randomly along the blog hop. (Comments must be left by 11:59 PM PDT on 8/9/2015. Winners will be announced on the PPP blog)

You should have arrived here from the Pretty Pink Posh blog! Now let's get started! My first card features the Storybook 1 Dies and some new mini sequins. This die set is a set of stitched squares that fit together into a larger square. I thought it would be fun to use some ice cream images from the Lawn Fawn set called Here's The Scoop!

You are a sweet treat! Card by Wanda Guess. Lawn Fawn Here's the Scoop stamp set. Pretty Pink Posh dies.

To tie my project together I used the same colors in all the different squares. I added pops of red to each item also. Then I finished off with some pretty pink twine. I colored all the images with my Copic markers and added touches of Diamond Stickles at the end. The sentiment is a long stamp with all the words in a row. To make it fit this spot, I stamped each word separately!

All my ice cream images are popped up with foam tape onto the white squares.

For my second project I used two new PPP dies. I used the Stitched Speech Bubble Dies and the Twine and Bows Dies. TOO cute! Then I had fun with some Doodlebug patterned papers and the awesome Gleeful Gardens stamp set. I put my card together first and then chose Copic Markers to match the papers exactly! These are some funky colored snails! LOL.

I love that tiny bow as an accent piece!! I was inspired for the project by the pretty flower shaped sequins Paulina sent me! I put a golden yellow one right in the center.

See that cute border on the bottom?? That is another PPP die called Stitched Borders 3 and I use that one all the time! It is such a happy pattern. Here I added some more flower sequins. I love how they match the shape of the flowers on the paper

  • Hello Little Prince – A special baby card!

HEEEEYYYYYYYY! I'm back! Where did I go? Who knows? Whew, been super busy and not crafting a whole lot. But here I am. And I have a really fun and special card to share today! There is so much going on in my life right now. Dang. I'll share more, but let's just say that I'm inside a Ninja blender the past couple of weeks. But things are going to calm down here soon and that's a good thing. Plus, this weekend I'm going to an AWESOME crafty class with two of my very favorite crafty gurlz. I'll be sure to post about it too!

Anyhoo, today's card! One of my very dear and sweet friends had a baby on Saturday! A 4th of July baby! How cool is that? I met her 7 years ago when we used to work together and all she really ever wanted was to find a good guy and be a mom. I have seen her date, then we went to her wedding and now she has a beautiful baby. The circle of life! (Anyone have a lion cub to hold aloft?) LOVE it. And her dreams have come true! I am so very happy for her and she is going to be such a good mom. I cannot wait to meet the little man soon. But, until then, I had to send a card (of course!)

I busted out this adorable stamp set from Lawn Fawn and my trusty baby blue gingham paper….and my new Kuretake Clean Color Markers and made this card. I make tons of cards and I love doing that – design teams, blog hops, etc. But, what is the BEST about being a stamper is to make a special card filled with love for a specific person. It fills my heart and reminds me of the purity of what we do. Send hugs in the mail.

Lawn Fawn Stamp Set Hello Baby. Card by Wanda Guess

It's been a while since I made a circle card. I used a big scalloped circle die from Sizzix (From Stampin' Up) and cut out three gingham circles. Two are glued back to back for the bottom piece of the card and the other one is for the top of the card. The circles are held together with a brad. I stamped my frog and colored him with Kuretake Clean Markers. The cat tails and lily pad were stamped with Distress Inks.

Baby Card with Lawn Fawn stamps

Here are my two pieces before I hooked them together with a brad. And, you can see the inside of the card. For the blue background behind the frog I gently sponged some Salty Ocean and Tumbled Glass Distress Inks and then swirled the color around with some water on a paint brush. Nice and soft.

    1

The stamp set has matching dies….of course. Here you can see the brad up close. The card just sort of swings apart on the brad, like a hinge.

    1

I made a matching gingham envelope with my Envelope Punch Board. I cut out a stitched rectangle in white and stamped the baby's name on it. The alphabet stamp set is from Lawn Fawn and it's called Violet's ABC's. The tiny stars are part of the stamp set.

Thanks for stopping in to see me and see what I'm up to. Hope you are having a fantastic week so far. Sorry to be so silly in my post. I had A LOT of coffee today and I've been up since 4:30 am. Yikes. Love you guys. XOXOXO

  • Flickr Challenge! Lawn Fawn and Simon Says Stamp – Craft with Kraft!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! Yesssss! OMG I am sooooooo excited to share this card today! I went down to Scrapbook Territory last week and got my new LAWN FAWN goodies and could not wait to ink them up! The new Lawn Fawn stuff was very high on my list of 'must haves' from CHA. The stamps are just so happy! So I was already excited… Then….I saw that Barb was hosting a Simon Says Stamp + Lawn Fawn Flickr Challenge! A match made in heaven if you ask me!

The theme for the Flickr challenge is Craft with Kraft using Lawn Fawn and SSS products. NO problem! I sat down with the Gleeful Gardens set and my Copics and went to town. These images are just so delightful and fun to color. This card makes me happy! I hope it makes you smile.

I stamped and colored all my images first and then cut them out with the perfectly matched dies. It felt good to get the Copics out – it's been a while. Most of my pieces are popped up with foam tape. I cut the hills using the awesome Stitched Slopes dies and put those down first. How sweet is that hummingbird??

I stamped the sentiment right onto my card base with rich black ink. The finished card is 5 inches square. I like a square card, don't you? I wrapped some twine around my layers before putting them on my card base.

Here is my Winter Penguin tag! All the stamps and paper are from Lawn Fawn!! I had lots of fun piecing everything together and then covering it all with diamond Stickles! Isn't he so cute?

One trick I use for making "snow" is to gently dab the tip of the Stickles bottle in dots all over the page. the snowflakes were stamped with Broken China Distress Ink. It's the perfect shade of blue!!

Here's a side view. My little penguin guy is cut out with the matching die and then mounted on foam tape. I added a small trail of Stickles behind his skate. I cut two matching tags so I could layer some red underneath to tie it all together.

  • Fall + Coffee = A Perfect Blend!

Hellllooooooo! It's been a long week and I have missed crafting and blogging! I got up early this morning and headed into the craft room and made this card before we started out for a long, fun day! Just now home and posting this! The hubs and I went on a movie-lunch-mall date today! Just what I needed! And, I got a massage (really what I needed)…and I spent a whole wad of cash at Sephora! What's better than that?? Nothing! We went to see "Gone Girl" and it was REALLY good!! it doesn't hurt much to look at Ben Affleck for two hours either (just sayin'). Did you guys have a good week? I was super busy at work and I feel like the week chewed me up and spit me back out…. But today made up for all that!

Today's card combines three of my favorite things together: Fall, coffee, and leaves! A perfect blend of elements if you ask me. I used some new Lawn Fawn stamps that just came in the mail, along with some old favorites! And I'm pretty addicted to the Sweater Weather paper pad! Here ya go…

Don't you love when the stamps and dies go together SO perfectly!? I used a few matching Copics to color my coffee cups – really simple. I paper pieced the coffee cozy on the big cup and added a heart. The stitched leaves always work!

My coffee cups are popped up with foam squares and so is my banner. Everything is gently distressed with Antique Linen ink and a big sponge dauber. The paper is the confetti cream paper from PTI. It's nice and 'earthy' and goes so nicely with kraft!

I had to use this pretty Lawn Fawn Flair heart button! And…how cute is the little steam swirl??? Love.

  • Coffee Gift Card Box!

Hi everyone! Thank you for all the very kind words, comments and emails you all sent me after my last blog post. This crafty community fills my soul with love and joy. Thanks for being you! I'm so grateful to know that people care. Sometimes that is all a person needs, right? XO

Just popping in to share a quick and easy project I made last weekend! A Starbucks gift card holder box all jazzed up!

I haven't had time to stamp this week – still super busy at work… But, I had a fun day with my friend Sharon (CLICK HERE FOR HER BLOG) stamping all day on Saturday. Her sister is one of my dearest friends too, so what a nice day we all had! I needed to make a gift card holder for someone and I knew Sharon would be able to hook me up with a cool box. She used THIS TUTORIAL to make a neat pop out box…and then I decorated it. Good teamwork! (Thumbs up)

So now I'm pretty sure I need this bow die from Stampin' Up! The paper is from American Crafts – perfect with the little coffee cups! I just took a three inch strip of patterned paper and wrapped it around the box. Then I made the bow and glued it on the top! Easy-Peasy!

Then I used some SUPER cute new stamps from Lawn Fawn to make the tag to go on it… Colored with a few Copics… The stamp set has matching dies too! Perfection!

Here is the inside of the box with the Starbucks card inserted. Sorry I didn't take a better photo, but you get the general idea! COOOOL, huh?

  • I {heart} Fall!

Hello! I'm back today with more Fall crafting craziness! I stayed up late last night stamping and relaxing. Really what I needed. I worked so many hours this past week and I was brain dead Friday night when I came home from work. The one sure fire way to get me back in my groove is to spend the day (and night) crafting. (And watching college football) I have some cool things in the works to share later. I started Bible Journaling and did my first page yesterday. (You can see a sneak peek on Instagram) I will probably write an entire post about that and all the blessings that have come from this new art form… I am also going to be a guestie somewhere very fabulous at the end of the month. lots of good things to come!!

For today I have a cute and happy Lawn Fawn Fall card to show ya! I got my new Lawn Fawn goodies in the mail last week and wanted to use them quick. One of the things I'm working on is just using stuff – not hoarding it, or looking at it! LOL. Do you do that too? Well…I'm trying to reform! (Please do not look at the 30 Iris cases full of 12×12 paper that are behind me)….

    Here's my card for today!

How cute are these stamps??!! ACK!!! I used the critters from the Sending Hedgehugs stamp set and the Joy to the Woods stamp set! The sentiment is from the Into the Woods set from last year. Yep, those are the Stitched Leaves dies again too… They are my favorite!

    1

EEEP! Critters in the Autumn Forest! I used the same brown tones as the patterned paper for coloring my animals. I tried making them different colors, but then they clashed with the paper. This way they blend in nicely. I wasn't planning it, but I kind of like the effect of having the animals soft in color – against the bright paper…

This paper collection is called Sweater Weather and I ADORE it already. The flair is also from that collection. The paper has the traditional colors of orange and yellow for Fall, but then pops in a nice soft teal with a raspberry color. Nice!

  • Happy FALL 2014! Rainbow leaves project….

Howdy friends! Hope you're having an awesome Labor Day weekend! It's September 1st, so I'm gonna go ahead and call it Autumn! YEAH! Happy Fall everyone!! If you've followed me for a while then you KNOW that Fall is my very favorite time of year. I love the cooler weather, cozy sweaters, apples, leaves, hot coffee drinks, football, my birthday, my wedding anniversary, pumpkin flavored anything…you get my drift! So, as soon as the calendar turns over from August to September I say it's time to start Fall crafting!! If it wasn't 98 degrees here yesterday, I might just bust out and wear a sweater….but that part will have to wait…

I spent some time in the craft room on Saturday watching college football. Oh, that does my heart good. Especially since my college (who had a very bad season last year) won our first game!! So now we have an undefeated season going! LOL. What is your favorite season? Are you a Summer beach girl, or a toasty mittens Winter girl?

Did you notice my new blog header? Yep, even turned that over for Fall! I picked out a few of my favorite orange/yellow/red photos and made a new somethin somethin for you to see right when you pop in. Hope you like it!

My cards for today started out as a fun and colorful project with some leaves dies and pretty wood-grain paper and some (many) distress inks… I made the leaves a week or so ago and let them sit on my desk… I ended up having enough leaves to make three similar but kinda different cards. Here they are…the first official projects of Fall 2014!

Lawn Fawn Stitched Leaves with Distress Inks. Card by Wanda Guess

Here are my three cards together. Basically the same exact supplies on all three, but different shapes and different sentiments. The leaves dies are the Stitched Leaves set from Lawn Fawn. The swirl stamp is a very old set from Autumn Leaves designed by Rhonna Farrer… The raindrops clear gems are from Papertrey Ink….

I think this one is my favorite! Not sure though…. This finished card is 8×4 which fits in a standard legal envelope. I like to make this bigger size from time to time. Gives ya room to spread out… I used vellum on all my cards, and black Staz-on ink.

This sentiment is from Papertrey Ink… I put some of the leaves straight onto the vellum and some were popped up with foam squares.

I just love the rainbow look here with the bright leaves! The gems were glued on with glossy accents which dries glossy and clear so you can't see the glue once it dries.

I hesitated about using the purple and teal, but I'm so glad I did!

Okay, so here is my little leaf assembly line… I cut all the leaves out of the woodgrain paper because I just love the texture!

Here's a close up – that's why they are called Stitched Leaves! See the pretty stitches? LOVE.

I used three shades of ink on each leaf color. Here you see the red ones…

Maybe I am a little obsessed with my mini distress inks. But that's okay right?
