  • Concord & 9th New Release – February 2024! New colors and a wonderful new release! Part 2!

Hey friends! Welcome back to part two of my featured cards made with the new Concord and 9th release!! I posted three cards on Friday, and I'll post my final three cards today! Hope you're having a great weekend! Grab a cuppa and spend a little crafty time with me! I have lots of color for you today! As you know, last week Concord and 9th released six new colors – in ink, paper, patterned paper, and enamel dots. The new colors are delicious! And in addition, we got an entire new stamp/die/stencil release too! Nothing better than that! It's always fun being a guest designer for my friends at Concord and 9th. They are the best! Let's get started!

My first card for today features the brand new Everyday Expressions dies! I am also featuring the new colors and new papers! I combined the new items with one of my previously released product suites from C9 – Whimsical Wishes! My finished card is an A2 white card base, layered with Grasshopper paper and gingham, some stenciling, and that pretty butterfly and sentiment.

The new sentiment die set is lovely and perfect!! You are amazing is the perfect sentiment for lots of occasions! I used the new gingham paper at the bottom of my card. Love.

Here is the detailed view of that big gorgeous butterfly!! A circle of vellum provides her a landing spot on my card.

Here's a close up of the stenciling. I used the Whimsical Wishes Stencils but in a different way! I used the bottom part of the stencil, but put it at the top of the card. I also did not stencil all the elements in the design. It's fun to look at your stencils in a different way – and only use part of it!!

Here is my project on my desk, along with the dies… It's so cool how this is designed. You cut a cardstock panel to A2 size and then run the floral detail die through your machine. Then, you can leave it like that, or use the outline die and cut around the floral!!! The design that is imprinted into the paper serves as your guide for where to place each floral. Um, genius!! It was so simple to put it all together. The hardest part was deciding which colors to use!

And, last but not least, for release week is my card featuring the brand new Contempo Turnabout stamp set! My finished card is an A2 card base layered with bold blueberry paper and then the turnabout pattern! I wanted more of a masculine look to this graphic card so I used deeper/bolder colors!! The sentiments are from the matching accessory stamps!! I do love a good turnabout stamp!!

  • Papertrey Ink Throwback Thursday! Rainbow Stripes Dies!

Hi everyone! At Papertrey Ink, it's Throwback Thursday time! I'll be joining in throughout the year as we feature stamp sets from previous releases! It's a fun way to get new inspiration from stamp sets we already have and love. Or a good way to find new stamps to play with too! Today we are featuring the Rainbow Stripes Die Set! Be sure to click over to the Papertrey Ink Blog for even more inspiration from other design team members! I'm happy to have you here today! I have two posts today! Both are Papertrey Ink so scroll to see the other post. Thank you for hanging in there with me all week as I have so many blog posts! And, thank you for all the nice comments!!

My brain came up with many, many ideas for using the cool Rainbow Stripes Dies! You can make these stripes in any color, you can put them horizontally or vertically…they work for feminine or masculine cards, and on and on!! I decided to use my favorite PTI cardstock colors and make a super bright and cheery card sure to brighten someone's mailbox! Supplies are listed at the bottom of my post.

I started with an A2 card base in bright white. My stripes were die cut using Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, and Bright Buttercup cardstock. I layered the striped down the center of my card and then had fun embellishing them! I thought a nice big butterfly would look good! I die cut the top layer of the butterfly out of vellum for a soft look.

The sentiment is very striking when it's the only pop of rich true black on the card! I love these Bloomin' sentiment dies!!!

  • Let your dreams take flight!

Hi everyone! It feels like it's been a while since I wrote a blog post and said hello and talked about things…. So, today that's what I'm doing! It's well into February now and I just have the feeling that this year is going to go fast! We'd better get busy! (That's what I keep telling myself!) I'm really trying to focus on de-cluttering and on being more organized around my studio and my home. Seems like all my friends and I are talking about this! I have to admit I'm slow at it, but every time I take a couple of bags to the Goodwill I feel lighter, and freer. Last year I made it a goal to take at least one giant bag a week. That seems manageable to me. Now my crafting stuff? That's a whole different story! I have such a hard time parting with my stamps! Are you that way? They seem like old friends and memories! The other thing I'm working on right now is relaxing and being in the moment with my life. I've made a conscious effort to hang out with my friends more and talk….like in person! It's so good for my soul! Every time I hang out with people I laugh, and smile and feel better! Working from home is hard for this old social butterfly! I went to a really fun craft retreat a couple weeks ago and I'll write a post about that – maybe later this week. What have you been up to?

A couple of weeks ago I made a difficult decision to resign from the Simon Says Stamp Creative Team. I worked for them for about a year and a half and it was wonderful! I am super grateful to Heidi and the rest of the talented people at Simon Says Stamp for giving me the opportunity to work with them. I have a lot of great memories and I learned a lot from the experience too. I fondly will remember the time I spent with that awesome crew. So, unfortunately, that means no more Weekender with Wanda. That part makes me sad because I really loved interacting with you each weekend on the Simon Says Stamp Blog. Many of you have emailed me about this, so I thought I would go ahead and say something here about it. Thank you all for your comments and for following along with me over there. I made new friends and crafting buddies through my work with Simon and I'm forever grateful for that too! Thank you all!

Today I'm sharing a final project I made for SSS because I just really love this card, and these products, and wanted to blog about it! I used stamps and dies from one of my favorite companies – Reverse Confetti. Jen is amazing, and her products are always on trend, on point, and super classy and fabulous. The background was made with one of my top picks in crafting lately – the Eyelet Cover Panel. LOVE. I'll write more about the card below.

Reverse Confetti Butterfly Dreams. Card by Wanda Guess

I started with an A2 card base made from rich black cardstock. Then I die cut the Eyelet Plate in crisp white to layer on top. The contrast of this is so striking and pretty. I love eyelet in any form, even paper! It's timeless…. There is a lot of room for you to use your adhesive tape runner to attach the white part to the black – nothing special required here.

The Butterfly Dreams stamps have perfectly matching dies. I stamped the sentiment butterfly in two shades of blue ink, with the darker ink just around the edges. Then I die cut that butterfly out. I also die cut some butterflies out of vellum and gold cardstock.

I layered a pretty doily onto the bottom layer and they attached my butterflies in clear glue – just gluing them in the centers. I used vellum underneath for a soft effect. Once the glue was dry, I used my fingers to gently lift the wings up off the paper.

The final touch was to use some matching Doodlebug Glitter Sprinkles in the centers of some of the butterflies and also in the center of some of the patterns. That pop of blue matches the ink and really ties the card together. Plus, you know I have to use enamel dots!

I think this card would be pretty in a bright lime green, or yellow too! I might even turn this one card into a set?! Just that little bit of gold is so fabulous. I am loving using gold cardstock lately for accents.

    SUPPLIES FOR TODAY:

  • Fun new project to share – and a card too!

Howdy! How is your week going so far!? I am REALLY happy to finally share a cool new collaboration project I'm starting today with my amazing friends at Simon Says Stamp!  Over on the Simon Says Stamp Blog each month, I am going to be making a project to feature the newest color added to the Distress Ink family! Ranger and Tim Holtz are releasing a brand new ink color each month for this entire year and it is so much fun to anticipate what the new color will be!

    Simon logo (2)

In my first project for this feature I used the new colors for January and February – and those are Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral. The color for March is Mermaid Lagoon, and as soon as I can get the inks in my studio, I'll be featuring it next! YEAH!

I hope you will follow along with me over there every month to see the new color. I'm going to be making a swatch chart too, so you can easily see how the new color fits in with the existing colors. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE PROJECT. You can leave a comment to win a prize!! Thanks so very much to my friends at Simon Says Stamp!
